If the use of Linux as a host, or Windows 7?
I am in Aerospace Engineering. What I know is I'm going to do modeling 3D, simulation, physical simulation, HE physics, quantum mechanics, gnashing of data, algorithms, programming (up and down), or analysis video image converting natural algorithms (image, audio, raw data), research and analysis may be unknown / invisible / beyond (Hard to explain), the ability to customize and create functions specialiazed, hacking / cracking / edit, etc. Remember, outside of education and work, Im gonna need a multimedia operating system, and a platform Gamming with my console and we as office work and socialize. So you think you can use Ubuntu 10.04 as host and use VMware to run Snow Leopard or Windows 7 (if I have Windows 7 is already installed)? The reason you want to use Snow Leopard is to take advantage of other integrated technologies OpenCL in the operating system. Also, if I use Linux, what programs do you recommend? What I can find in the repo?
All First, you can legally install Snow Leopard on Apple computers. You can even install it on a virtual machine. Second, VM can not benefit from OpenCL, because it is running on real hardware, running on hardware Virtual is not compatible with it. Each time you run something in a virtual machine, you take a performance hit. Especially in things graphics. For modeling and simulation, you want to run on hardware. By the way, if you write the simulations, Nvidia has released drivers for Linux and Windows OpenCL. They also support their own CUDA (which does the same thing) on Linux, Windows and OS X and Windows drivers include support for DirectCompute. Mac OS X is the only OS on standard * * OpenCL, but it is accessible to all.
